Working meeting held at Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport related to the OLGA Project  (hOLystic &Green Airport)

At the beginning of May 2022, a working meeting was held for the OLGA Project, organized by Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport. During this meeting, the people involved in the project met to analyze the first 6 months of activity and to issue new proposals in carrying out tasks related to the project. Following this meeting, the objectives for the following actions were set.

Each institution presented its achievements and activities undertaken within the project. Cluj Airport mentioned the creation of the team project, the active participation in the working meetings, the collaboration with the local and external partners and also the involvement in the work-packages related to the Terminal Area (WP. 4), Energy & hydrogen, (WP. 5) and Cross-cutting aspects (WP. 6). During the meeting, PhD. Eng. David Ciceo, Managing Director of Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport stated that the airport is committed to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2050.

From the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Prof. PhD. Eng.  Bogdan Varga presented the activities related to WP.2.1 (Low carbon connection with cities), WP. 2.4 (Autonomous landside mobility), WP. 2.5 (Waste as alternative fuel for bioNGV buses) and WP. 2.6 (Rail-air intermodality). He also mentioned that they provided technical data collected monthly which was sent to Zagreb Airport in order to implement solutions to integrate transport from the airport to the city center.

UTCN has also started collecting data on passenger traffic on the route from the airport to the city. An intermodal transport questionnaire will provide information on passengers’ choices of preferred transport solutions.

The Technical University of Cluj together with Cluj Airport is working to identify metropolitan connection solutions for passenger transport, the final beneficiaries being the Cluj Municipality and the airport.

Cluj Airport’s collaboration with the National Research  and Development Institute for Gas Turbines COMOTI continues in this project, based on previous projects, such as the ANIMA Project. In conclusion, the meeting of the specialists from the OLGA Project set new directions in order to implement the activities related to the project.
